YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known by his online moniker “BeerBiceps,” approached the Supreme Court on Friday, seeking relief against multiple FIRs filed against him in various states over alleged obscene comments made during his guest appearance on the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent.’
Allahbadia, through his lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud, filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking the consolidation of FIRs filed against him across different states.The YouTuber also sought protection from any coercive action against him, expressing concerns over a possible action by the Guwahati police, who have already issued summons to him and others involved in the show.
The entire controversy erupted after Allahbadia made remarks about parents and sex during the now-deleted episode of India’s Got Latent, a reality show that featured comedians and influencers as judges and participants.
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” Allahbadia asked, drawing laughter from comedian and show host Samay Raina and other judges.Allahbadia, who enjoys over 16 million followers across various social media platforms, sparked a controversy with the clip of his comments going viral. Later, he posted a video apology, calling his remark a “lapse in judgment.”
Legal Trouble For Creators
The Guwahati Police registered an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Samay Raina and all judges on the show, including Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while confirming the development, said, “The FIR accuses them of promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions.”
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on Tuesday registered an FIR against more than 30 people related to the YouTube show ‘India’s Got Latent.’ The authorities also asked the creators to remove all videos of the show from social media.“A case has been filed against all the people who were involved from the first episode of the show to episode 6. The process of sending notices to everyone has been started. Everyone will be called to record their statements,” said an official.
Notably, Samay Raina, who is currently in Seattle for a pre-scheduled tour, has been summoned by Maharashtra Cyber Department and Mumbai Police. He has requested more time to comply with the summons, citing his international travel.
The National Commission for Women also summoned YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina and others over the usage of ‘derogatory’ remarks on the show India’s Got Latent.
Expressing strong concern over the vulgar and offensive statements made by creators on the YouTube show, the women’s panel asked them to appear before the commission on February 17 at the NCW, Delhi office.
