Rohit Sharma has overtaken Rahul Dravid to become the 10th leading run-scorer in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma scored a century for India in the second ODI against England. The 37-year-old right-handed batter opened the innings for Men in Blue in the 305-run chase at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday (February 9) and, with the help of 12 fours and 7 sixes, scored 119 runs. During his stay at the crease, Rohit broke multiple batting records.

When Rohit crossed the 22-run mark on Sunday, he went past former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid’s tally of 10,889 runs and became the 10th leading run scorer in the 50-over format of the game. Since making his ODI debut for India against Ireland on June 23, 2007, Rohit has played 267 matches and has 10,987 runs to his name.

During his 15-year-long ODI career, Dravid played 344 ODIs and amassed a total of 10,889 runs. He scored 10,768 runs in 340 matches for Team India, 75 runs in one match for Asia XI, and 46 runs in three matches for ICC World XI against Australia in October 2005.

Rohit needs 13 runs to complete 11,000 runs in ODIs, and if he manages to achieve the feat during the third India-England ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday (February 12), then he will become the second-fastest batter in the world after Virat Kohli to score 11,000 ODI runs.

Apart from overtaking Dravid and entering the list of the top 10 leading run scorers in ODIs, Rohit also broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,335 runs as an Indian opener in international cricket. Rohit, who has been a regular opener for India in ODIs since the 2013 Champions Trophy, has 15,404 runs to his name in 345 innings. Only Virender Sehwag (15,758) has scored more runs as an opener for India in international cricket than Rohit.
