Veteran Industrialist Stabbed 70 Times By Grandson Over Property Dispute In Hyderabad

In a shocking and tragic incident, an 86-year-old industrialist was allegedly stabbed to death at his residence by his 28-year-old grandson over property dispute, police said.

The incident took place on February 6, when the accused grandson, identified as K Kirti Teja allegedly confronted Velamati Chandrasekhara Janardhana Rao, the chairman of Veljan Group, over assets distribution.

The heated argument turned violent and Teja stabbed his grandfather ‘around 70 times’ with a knife, which resulted in Rao’s immediate death

The accused also stabbed his mother when she tried to intervene. She sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital, Panjagutta police said.

Teja and his mother, who live in another part of the city, visited Rao’s house in Somajiguda last week. While she went to get coffee, an argument broke out between Teja and Rao over alleged “unfair asset distribution”.

During the argument, Teja accused his grandfather of being indifferent toward him since childhood and “refusing” to distribute the property to him, police said, citing preliminary investigations. When asked about reports that the victim was allegedly stabbed more than 70 times, police stated that there were multiple stab wounds and that the exact number would be confirmed based on the post-mortem examination (PME) report.

Teja had recently returned to Hyderabad after completing his master’s degree in the United States. He has been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
