EAM Jaishankar Meets Chinese FM Wang Yi, Discusses Border Peace & Bilateral Ties

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi today on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. Briefing the media in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said they reviewed developments in the bilateral relationship, specifically the management of peace and tranquillity in the border areas. He added that the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, the resumption of direct flight connectivity, and travel facilitation were discussed during the meeting.

In his opening remarks at the meeting, External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar noted that India and China have worked hard to preserve and protect the G20 as an institution. He said this in itself testifies to the importance of international cooperation. Dr. Jaishankar stated that India and China are members of the G20, SCO, and BRICS. He emphasised that there are also regional and global issues of mutual interest, where an exchange of perspectives will be to both nations’ mutual benefit.
